Also, not to beat a dead horse but I think it’s worth putting to bed the misgiving that my record label has “negatively influenced” my new music because of the way it sounds to some people. With zero disrespect toward the opinions of others, I can assure you it’s really quite the contrary. I’ve become head over heels fascinated with what makes people tick, and moreover, how I might capture a lot of magic in a small jar within a set of self-imposed parameters. It’s hard to explain, but exactly where and how these two things have the ability to coexist together without tipping the scale is what’s beyond inspiring to me and I can’t get enough of it. It’s pop music, sure… but how stirring and electrifying and inspiring it is with the right perspective or frame of reference! That’s not to say it always will be for me, it’s merely the sparkle that’s captured my attention at the moment. It might be something else tomorrow, it might be something different in five years, all I know is that I’ve never been more truly, genuinely excited in my life about releasing new music than I am at this present moment. It’s all in how you look at it. Sometimes people say, “that’s great… but just make sure you’re being true to yourself” and let me tell you, nothing could be more accurate, because that’s precisely what it’s all about. Staying true to yourself. The second it ever becomes about anything else, I hope I have enough sense to hit the brakes and never write another song. Just want you to know I get it. Music evolution happens and it’s okay.

I feel like so often listeners don’t get a chance to hear the specific thoughts/feelings spelled out from the heart of an artist they admire because so often it’s just wham… new material, zero explanation, it sounds different than it did before and people don’t have a point of reference or insight regarding why the artist is making the choices he is choosing to make.

So here’s two cents worth of insight for ya. You’re the greatest.
